AIHA Registry Programs News

what is a registered analyst in the aar program?

Upon the formation of the AIHA Registry Programs LLC in 2008, we adopted governance for the programs that mirrored that of the AIHA Laboratory Quality Assurance Programs that had housed the registry programs previously.  As we have grown our registry program offerings, we have found that the old governance was not providing the best support for the growth of our programs.  Earlier this year we have transitioned our Registry Programs Board (RPB) into Subject Matter Expert (SME) teams.  Each of our registry programs has its own dedicated SME team that is responsible for providing technical guidance for the program in that specific subject matter area.  These teams also serve to provide technical review of applications, technical review of program policy and technical support of the program’s competency assessment or proficiency program.  The formation of these SME teams ensure that each of our programs has the needed expertise to support the program and will help us to provide a more nimble means for integrating new registries into the Registry Program offerings.

The transition of the RPB means that we no longer have a board that reviews and approves the registration of AAR analysts and organizations.  Organization registration is gained through meeting the AAR policy by submitting an AAR application and is maintained through the triennial application.  Analyst registration is maintained through application submission that demonstrates the analyst is following the organization’s approved Quality System and through regular successful participation in the program’s proficiency program.  We will now be using the terms Registered Organizations and Registered Analysts, in place of Approved Organizaitons and Board-Approved Analysts, for our participants who have met these requirements.

Registered Analysts will now gain their registered status when the results for the AAT round in which they gain proficiency are posted (so long as their application has alos been approved).  Registration letters will be sent within 10 business days of the results posting.  Analysts will no longer have to wait for the ballot to the RPB before registration is granted.

Later this year we will be offering an insignia to our Registered Organizations and Registered Analysts that can be used to advertise their registration status.  We are working on the policy for the use of these insignia and will provide more information as it is available.

The AAR Policy has been updated to reflect this change and is posted on the website; as is a version of this document with the changes tracked so that you can more easily view them.  Please feel free to contact us at info.registryLLC@aiha.org with any questions or concerns regarding this change.
